1: Right on the money, there is a great deal of difference between gankers and pirates. Sadly the gankers often consider themselves the embodyment of pirates and anyone who tells them differently is a ******* carebear, sadly its not an issue that is likely to change anytime soon as the gankers are also some of the biggest whiners in the game and any game chage that will make it viable to hunt and destroy them will be met with an uproar of whining.
2: The problem here is that the game is over 2 years old and according to figures over 50% of the initial players are still active. In the begining we all used friggs, I wont say it was a golden age because it wasnt, after a while we got into cruisers and while I was behind the lead players I was a faily experienced cruiser player when news of the first BS to be taken out rippled across the game.
Back then isk was alot harder to come by.
While I do agree that BS's have become very common you must remember that the BS is not an extreme ship in EvE, after all a 2 day old player can quite easilly get a drop worth 100mil today.
The extreme ships are the capital ships.
And in any case people usually move through the path, friggs(1-5weeks)->cruiser(1-15weeks)->BS(1-??weeks)->T2 friggs(1-??weeks)->T2 cruisers(1-??weeks). So while many people fly BS's more and more will move back to cruisers as long as CCP keeps the T2 BS's back.
3.1: Its called transversal velocity and can be used even at large distances, if you fly straight towards the aggressor they will be able to get good shots in but even a small angle can throw off large guns somthing terrible.
Campers (pirates and gankers both) know this and usually try to position themselves at the gate so as to minimize transversal velocity, you may want to rather than fly directly from gate to gate make a pitstop along the way so that your transversal velocity is kept high.
3.2: Sadly EvE has been pushed into a game of extremes by the gankers, the initial intent was to have a gradual decline in protection from 1.0 down to 0.0 empire (yes it exists) after wich there is no law. The problem was that the security was in no way capable of dealing with players and thus in a long path of changes we ended upp where we are today, gate guns (not in initially) concordokken and all.
I would love to see 0.4 and 0.3 be policed by faction ships that can be fought and defeated but any such change will bring down the whining mentioned under point 1.
4: Roileplaying can be found in abundance if you look for it, there are entire corps that try to always stay in character, there are some events you can seek out and naturally if you roleplay someone else is bound to roleplay back :)
5: gate camping is what makes belt pirating close to impossible, people dont like being ganked (wether they in reality are or not) and thus as can be seen on the map stay in highsec, if gatecamping was to be clamped down on by say adding faction police in 0.4 and 0.3 but allow piracy in the belts as now alot more targets would brave thise systems and more people meen more target opportunities for the belt pirate.
Again while such a change would make piracy more fun the gankers want the quick fix of gate activating... lock ... F1-F8 -> *poof* and will scream their heads off to stop any change that would make their life different, more risky, more effort demanding so on and so forth.
It is always interesting to read what a new players view is on the game, the most amusing posts on this topic are the newbie gatecampers complaining about concord in highsec or gate guns at lowsec gates completely oblivious that the reason for those things to be there is because of people like them doing exactly what they are asking for the removal of the items to allow them to do.
You on the other hand seem to have grasped the finer points of the game and it was both interesting and fun to read.
